Megan Hook graduated cum
laude from Ithaca College , Ithaca , NY , with a degree in Vocal Performance. She sings opera professionally and
has sung three world premiere operas in the last ten years. Equally comfortable in pop and rock and roll, Megan fronted SuperLuminal,
a Seattle-based electro pop band, for five years. As a singer-songwriter Megan has recently released her first full-length
solo debut album entitled ephemeral . Megan also plays piano and guitar
and sings jazz.
Performing and singing such diverse styles allows her to work with students of varied backgrounds
with ease. Attention is placed on the underlying cohesive elements that unify all healthy vocal production. Lessons explore
breathing, the body as the instrument, anatomy, diction, range, pitch, and ease in singing, with the ultimate goal being finding
one's own unique voice. Megan's study of acting and experience as a professional actor also informs her teaching as she encourages
students to bring the songs to life, not only musically, but also dramatically. Lessons
are challenging but fun. Megan firmly believes that the joy of singing should not be lost in the pursuit of singing. Questions
are always welcomed. Singers play an instrument they can't see and an instrument that they in some ways must put together
themselves. Questions foster a dialogue and create a common language and understanding between the teacher and the student.
As a teacher, Megan maintained her own voice studio in Seattle, Voice Matters Vocal Studio, for five
years. Additionally she taught at the Music Center of the Northwest and at the Bellevue School of Music. Having relocated
to Los Angeles, Megan recently won the distinction of being named a Teaching Artist for the L.A. Music Center.
Megan is a member of The National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and The American Society
of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP).
