Bass-Baritone Steve Teague
was born and raised in North Carolina, and migrated to New York City, where he made his Broadway debut in "Evita",
directed by Hal Prince. He later joined the National Touring Company, touring the U.S. in EVITA for 3 years.
Steve’s musical training began at home, under the
supervision of his mother, who sang with the North American Opera Company in Hollywood, taking voice lessons with Jeanette
McDonald and Nelson Eddie. Steve coached under Mario Leonetti, David Romano, Jack Metz, Peter Shifter, Bill Vendice,
Mark Robeson and Seth Riggs.
He attended
the Julliard School of Music in NYC, until recruited with a scholarship to attend Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma,
where he began his professional singing career as a gospel singer in nationally televised productions for Billy Graham, Hilton
Sutton and Oral Roberts. He later earned his Bachelor of Arts in Music & Drama at Florida Atlantic University in
Boca Raton.
Winner of the
Metropolitan Opera Finals in 1987, his roles have included Mephistopheles in “Faust”, Jupiter in “Orpheus
and the Underworld”, Banco in “MacBeth”, Escamillo in “Carmen” and Colline in “La Boheme.”
Regional theatre credits include leading roles in THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE, OKLAHOMA, and MAN OF LA MANCHA, to name a few.
He has been a headliner around the world for over a decade, performing for luxury cruise
lines such as CUNARD, CRYSTAL, SILVER SEAS, REGENT, CELEBRITY, NCL, SEABORNE, and HOLLAND AMERICA.
Steve teaches singing as a sport, requiring every muscle
in your body, with particular emphasis on breathing - the foundation of all singing. He knows firsthand the physical,
mental and emotional stamina it takes to survive in this industry. His lessons encompass a true understanding of movement,
speech and vocal endurance on stage. He explores your individual expression and unique style, helping you discover your
own "voice".
He especially enjoys working with actors who want to improve their singing, and offers his wide
variety of experience in musical theatre and opera as a background for this work. He teaches in his home studio in Hollywood,
in the Mid-Wilshire studio location, or in students’ homes.
